- Aluminum oxide open coat sheet constructed on a D weight intermediate paper backing.
The 3M 346U paper sheet is constructed of tough aluminum oxide, cuts quickly and works well on many surfaces. Aluminum oxide is a very hard mineral that holds sharp points on grits much longer than natural abrasives such as emery or garnet. The abrasive grains are bonded to the sandpaper with a space between them, known as an open layer construction, to minimize the buildup of dust on the surface of the paper, which would otherwise load the abrasive points. Sheets are available in a range of grades and sizes to meet your different project needs. The sturdy D-weight paper backing is resistant to rough sanding, yet flexible enough to be used on curved surfaces. Its cut rate and durability make it an excellent choice for blending joints of connecting pieces for wood and metal work, as well as sanding plastics and fiberglass.
